How to Restore a Joomla 3 Manual Backup
In order to restore a manual backup of your Joomla 3 website, you will need access to a .sql. In our example the .sql file, was created via phpMyAdmin. It contains the necessary SQL codes and operations to run your Joomla site.
Step-by-Step Video Tutorial
1. Upload your Joomla Files
The first thing that we need to do is to upload the files and folders of your Joomla website to your web server. You can use an FTP program like FileZilla to upload your files, or, if you're using c-Panel, you can also use File Manager, which I find to be a lot quicker. At this point, if you have a large number of files to upload, you're better off going out for a cup of coffee, as this process will take a while to complete.
2. Restore your SQL Database
Once your files have been uploaded to your hosting server, the next step is to upload your .sql file.
Login to c-Panel > PHPMyAdmin > and click on "Import".
Under "File to Import" click on the Browse button and select the .sql file from your computer. Once you have selected your file, leave everything else at it's default setting. Scroll down and click on the "Go" button.
If the import was successful, you should see a success message.
The final step in the process is to check that everything is working on the frontend of your Joomla website, and also in the Administrator's area.
